Past Past President

Dan Eng, Past President, MBA, ISP

CIPS Experience

Dan is returning as a member of CIPS having been active some 5 years ago. He is a past president of the Toronto Section having also managed the Media Relations function and the CIPS across Canada publication. Members may remember him in his role as Security SIG co-chair as well for his activities in the Organizing Committee for the International Federation Information Processing Section 11 Security Conference. Dan sits on the advisory committee for Information Communication Technology (ICT) Toronto which has the mission of making the GTA, the 5th largest technology cluster in the world. He is currently very active in helping New Canadians and First Nations in finding IT jobs.

Professional Experience

Dan has almost thirty years of experience in all aspects of computing. As well as being familiar with operating an IBM 519 Mark Sense Reader, manning the computer console for an IBM 370 mainframe, he has held a number of project management positions. Needless to say, Dan enjoys rolling up his sleeves and debugging program code. Perhaps Dan enjoyed his time as a part-time Continuing Education Instructor the most because it gave him a chance to see what was possible with highly motivated students.

Having achieved a Certified Systems Professional (CSP), Dan has also received his ISP designation. Dan is currently engaged in a number of technology startups.

Education

Graduating from the University of Toronto in Computer Science, he went on to complete his MBA part-time at the same school. He continues to be a strong supporter and believer in the Rotman Business School concept of lifelong learning and integrative thinking

Personal Interests

Dan wishes he could play more tennis, golf and hockey (if he had the endurance).

Dan's message

Dan hopes to give back to the profession some of the things he has picked up in his travels. He brings a high level of energy, enthusiasm and fun. Dan looks forward to meeting with you all and seeing how he can help you achieve your day “in the sun”.
