A recent market survey conducted by CIPS as well as other organizational surveys indicated that Information Technology (IT) professionalism and standards of practice are important. The results of the surveys showed that organizations expect their IT staff to set high standards of professional practice and to possess the IT education and experience to practice in the field.

Based on the results of the market survey, CIPS developed a new vision focused on IT professionalism entitled, CIPS in the 21st Century.. In support of this vision, CIPS developed a Canadian IT Body of Knowledge (BOK). In addition, CIPS also strengthened its Code of Ethics and Information Systems Professional (I.S.P.) designation.
